The Institut Necker Enfants Malades (INEM ) invites applications for a Group Leader position in Immunology . INEM is a world-renowned biomedical research institute affiliated with Université Paris Cité, INSERM and CNRS. With over 300 staff members from more than 40 countries, the institute offers a vibrant, international and collaborative research environment.

INEM hosts 20 research teams organized around six strategic axes: immunity, inflammation and infection; cell plasticity and regeneration; metabolism; epigenetics and gene regulation; organelle dynamics and cell signaling; as well as stem cells and organoids. Research at INEM spans from fundamental discoveries to translational approaches and therapeutic innovation. Many INEM researchers hold joint clinical appointments, further reinforcing the translational orientation of the institute. INEM’s scientific excellence is reflected by the 15 ERC grants and numerous major European research projects obtained by its Principal Investigators.

Located on the Necker campus in central Paris, INEM is one of two major institutes alongside the Institut Imagine. The two institutes interact closely and benefit from a federative research structure offering shared access to cutting-edge technological platforms, advanced equipment, and dedicated support staff. INEM also maintains active partnerships with Institut Pasteur, clinical departments at the Necker Hospital for Sick Children, and other hospitals throughout Paris.

We are now seeking outstanding candidates to establish a new independent research group in Immunology. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a bold, innovative, and high-impact research program that complements and enhances INEM’s scientific strengths .

Selection will be based on scientific excellence , while also considering candidate’s track record of significant contributions, along with the originality, ambition and feasibility of the proposed research . We encourage applications across a broad spectrum of immunology, including but not limited to:

Human and translational immunology T cell biology and regulation Immune-tissue interactions and barrier immunity Immunometabolism and metabolic-immune crosstalk Advanced imaging of immune responses Systems immunology and integrative approaches Proposals that bridge immunology with other areas such as infection, inflammation, organ-specific physiology (e.g. lung, kidney, brain, gut) or regenerative medicine will also be considered.

The position offers dedicated lab and office space, including a cell culture room, along with a generous start-up package and access to on site () and Pasteur () core facilities. The institute will provide support for securing tenured positions and obtaining competitive national and European funding, as well as fostering collaborations within the Necker campus, Pasteur Institute, Université Paris Cité, and the broader Paris research ecosystem.

Candidates must hold a PhD or MD/PhD.
