About the role

The role requires a deep understanding of the YouTube platform, preferably with experience managing or running your own YouTube channels. Wider knowledge of social media publishing and podcast distribution is a plus. More than a social media manager position, the role requires a data-led approach and creative instinct, since a key responsibility is optimising video titles and thumbnails based on performance. The ideal candidate will have a passion for journalistic content and is familiar with the output and mission of the channels.

While the role is remote, the majority of the production team is based in Germany and the Netherlands. Given future international expansion plans, fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide assistance and support in managing the daily operations of multiple YouTube channels.

• Upload content to multiple channels (eg Instagram, TikTok, Patreon), ensuring adherence to platform best practices.

• Conduct active community management, eg responding to comments.

• Identify opportunities to cross-post and/or re-version YouTube content for other platforms.

• Coordinate content output on all relevant publishing platforms.

• Develop performance updates for the wider team and company.

• Continuously optimise back catalogue content (e.g., via new thumbnails and titles), working closely with designers.

• Utilise data analysis to provide actionable insights and growth strategies.

• Participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders to present channel activities and performance.

• Work closely with internal and external commercial partners.

• Keep abreast of YouTube platform developments, trends, and training.

• Optimise titles, descriptions, and keywords for SEO.

• Write and edit metadata and copy for videos and channels.

• Conduct granular analysis and reporting of YouTube analytics and other data sources.

Skills and experience 

• German language proficiency (essential).

• Some experience in YouTube channel management.

• Passion for high-quality journalism.

• Up-to-date knowledge of the YouTube platform and algorithm.

• Experience with brands or channels in the documentary or journalistic niche (preferred).

• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

• Ability to work collaboratively with creative teams.

• Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to quality control and editorial standards.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.

• Strong knowledge of the Fern, Simplicissimus back catalogues.
