Position details

Location: Paris

Reports to: Head of Finance

Contract: Internship

Position objective: Support the Head of Finance in building and structuring Alta Ares' finance function as the company scales. Own the preparation of financial reporting and management tools, contribute to fundraising and financing operations, and drive the deployment of scalable tools across finance and operational teams. Ensure rigorous follow-up of financial and accounting matters in close coordination with external accountants, auditors, and advisors.

Role & Mission

Financial Strategy & Strategic Projects

Design and maintain structured financial reporting for Executive Board and investor audiences. Support fundraising and financing operations, from data preparation to investor interactions. Identify levers for Net Working Capital optimization and proactively monitor cash positions.

Tooling & Process Automation

Deploy and continuously improve internal finance tools to automate reporting and eliminate manual friction. Structure management dashboards in close collaboration with operational teams to give each function visibility over its economic impact.

Accounting & Payroll Operations

Own the preparation of monthly accounting and payroll cut-offs, ensuring seamless coordination with external accountants, auditors, and advisors. Co-lead new team member onboarding from an administrative and HR operations standpoint. Maintain high standards of financial and social data integrity as the company scales.

Financial Planning & Analysis

Build and maintain financial models supporting strategic decisions. Prepare data-driven materials for board reporting and investor updates. Act as a business partner to operational teams, translating financial insights into actionable recommendations.

Requirements

Candidate profile

Education: Student from a top-tier Business or Engineering School, ideally with a specialization in Aerospace, Robotics, or a related field. T his position is open to end-of-studies internships , with a performance-based full-time offer at the end of the internship .

Mindset: You are a hands-on builder who combines technical depth with operational pragmatism. You thrive in fast-paced environments and move quickly from analysis to execution, with a genuine interest in the defense and SafeTech industry.

Trust & Confidentiality: Given our industry, you are a person of absolute integrity, trusted to handle sensitive data and maintain strict confidentiality.

Autonomy: You take ownership of complex problems and are comfortable operating in the field under demanding conditions.

Hard Skills: Previous experience in corporate finance, investment banking, or an audit/advisory firm is a strong asset. Solid command of accounting principles and corporate finance fundamentals. Proficient in Excel/Google Sheets, with the ability to build structured, clean models from scratch. Genuine interest in AI tools and process optimization, with a drive to automate and structure workflows rather than maintain them manually.

Language: Fluent in English and French.

Requirements: Eligibility for defense-related programs and high level of discretion required.

Nice to Have

Prior exposure to a high-growth startup or deeptech environment. Familiarity with finance tools such as Pennylane, Payhawk, or Lucca. Basic knowledge of French accounting standards (PCG) and payroll mechanics. Interest in defense, sovereignty, or dual-use technology sectors. Experience with data visualization or BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent).
