Legal Counsel

Goodman
Paris

Always wanted to challenge the obvious and make great things happen? At Goodman we create space for your greatness.

As Legal Counsel based in our Paris office, your primary objective is to proactively identify and mitigate legal risks relating to real estate development and operations, including associated infrastructure, power connection and energy projects, across our data centre and light industrial/logistics development projects and existing asset portfolio.

You will provide pragmatic legal support throughout the full project and asset lifecycle, working closely with the local team, the General Counsel, Legal colleagues across Continental Europe and the wider European team.

More concretely, this means you will get the opportunity to:

  • Provide legal advice in various fields of law and in particular in town-planning and environmental law (review and securing of projects’ administrative authorizations), as well as in real estate (due diligence, sales, acquisitions, easements, plot divisions, ASL, etc.) and have a working knowledge of energy law to provide support on energy-related matters connected with the above areas.
  • Draft, review, negotiate contractual terms and manage agreements, for data centre and light industrial/logistics developments and the existing asset portfolio, including:
    • Leases (commercial, civil and public occupancy titles), land sales and purchases, more occasionally share purchase agreements
    • Energy, power and grid connection and use
    • Various types of contracts with consultants: architects, engineering firms, ICPE consultants, etc.
    • Construction, CPI, demolition, depollution and works contracts
    • Related energy and innovative projects, including PV and energy trading agreements, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and battery projects
  • Assist and secure various kinds of deals (asset deals as well as share deal) and projects (land matters, contractual structures, VEFA, leases, easements, plot divisions, etc.). Legal support for closings, vendor and purchaser audits, and data rooms.
  • Day-to-day legal support to project teams on operational matters (declarations, guarantees, releases, regulatory documentation)
  • Harmonizing and securing contractual commitments with groupe standards,
  • Identifying risks (liability, guarantees, penalties, insurance) and proposing appropriate risk allocation aligned with the project profile
  • Select (define scope of works, draft RFPs and mandate) and manage external advisors (law firms and notaries) effectively, promptly and at a fair cost (monitor quality and fees).
  • Define legal strategies and coordinate claims, legal disputes and litigation, handling and monitoring of proceedings (administrative, civil, and tax), validate procedural documents
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, standards and assurance processes, support the team on legal and compliance matters, and foster legal awareness.
  • Proactively advise the organisation on legal risks and opportunities by staying current with relevant legislation, regulations, case law and industry trends.
  • Collaborate closely with the local team, the General Counsel, other Legal Counsels across Continental Europe and the wider European team.

Do you recognise yourself?

  • A Master’s degree in law from a French university; an additional degree or LLM is an advantage.
  • Fluent French and English, both written and spoken.
  • Excellent knowledge of contract, construction and energy law, as well as town planning and environmental codes.
  • At least seven years of proven experience as Legal Counsel or in a similar role within a company or law firm, with experience in real estate development, construction law or major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong analytical, communication and negotiation skills. You are a real business partner and willing to contribute to decision-making.
  • The ability to work with limited supervision and independently handle complex legal matters.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and work across different teams while meeting deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel and work under time pressure in a fast-changing environment.
  • A strong interest in learning about Goodman and its business, and alignment with Goodman’s values of innovation, determination, integrity and sustainability.

Our culture is based on collaboration, ownership and a mindset of seizing the opportunity. We take ownership of our decisions, work together to achieve shared success, an create an environment where everyone is empowered to learn, grow and have impact.

Building for the future

Building and operating essential infrastructure comes with a real environmental impact. At Goodman, we don't shy away from that. We see it as a responsibility we owe to the generations who'll come after us, and as an opportunity to keep doing better, project after project. In practice, that means taking a long-term view of how what we build holds up over time, and building teams where different perspectives are genuinely valued. Because words only carry us so far, what counts is what actually gets achieved. It's an ongoing effort, made of small decisions as much as big ones, and one where the right people can push what's possible even further.
