The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the framework of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Both the OECD and the IEA seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-member countries of growing importance to the world economy. The Agency aims to foster the contribution of the energy sector to economic development and environmental sustainability. The IEA seeks a Data Visualisation Designer to work within the Energy Technology Policy (ETP) Division of the Directorate of Sustainability, Technology and Outlooks (STO). Her/his responsibility will be to make complex energy technology analysis clear, accessible and impactful through high-quality, data-driven visuals. The selected candidate will design and develop innovative charts, interactive visualisations, and infographics that convey key findings from ETP research and policy recommendations and that will appear in flagship technology reports like Energy Technology Perspectives, the Global Electric Vehicle Outlook or the Global Hydrogen Review among other publications, as well as in presentations and on IEA's website, social media channels and other digital platforms. Working closely with ETP analysts, the selected candidate will turn technical data and analysis into visually coherent outputs that highlight trends, support evidence-based insights, and engage diverse audiences. Beyond clarity and accuracy, the selected candidate will also bring an eye for narrative, framing data in ways that tell meaningful stories and help stakeholders understand the implications of ETP's work. We are looking for someone with strong data literacy and advanced skills in data visualisation and programming. A solid understanding of energy or related technology topics is a plus. Kindly note that the Data Visualisation Designer position at the IEA is an on-site role based in Paris. Job Description Main Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and update data-driven visuals for ETP publications, presentations, and internal and external communications.
- Collaborate with ETP colleagues to create compelling, insightful visualizations of data and analytical findings.
- Work with the IEA's Communications and Digital Office to publish ETP visualizations across multiple platforms, including PDFs, web pages, social media, videos, PowerPoint presentations, and print.
- Research and experiment with emerging data visualization tools, techniques, and best practices.
- Coordinate usability testing of visualization outputs and propose enhancements.
- Support general graphic design needs for publications, the website, and other platforms, as required.
- Participate in the OECD community of practice on data visualization to stay current on initiatives, tools, and standards.
- Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline is preferred. This may include fields related to data and analytics (such as data science, statistics, or programming), design and visual communication (such as graphic design, information design), or interdisciplinary areas that combine technical and visual expertise, such as data visualization, data journalism, or technical communication
- At least three years of experience in data visualization working for the public, private or academic sectors.
- A strong portfolio of projects turning data, including very large datasets, into insightful visuals.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver multiple data design projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated creativity in storytelling through presentations, helping diverse audiences understand and connect with data-driven insights.
- A proven ability to work in a dynamic, international and multi-lingual environment.
- A demonstrated interest in energy and environmental topics or other relevant fields.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator; experience with Photoshop, InDesign, or other Adobe Creative Cloud tools is a strong advantage.
- Solid foundation in graphic design principles, typography, and data storytelling.
- Experience designing static visualizations, dashboards, and infographics using Adobe products.
- Familiarity with interactive visualization libraries (e.g., D3.js, Highcharts) is a plus.
- Competence in data analysis and insight extraction from large datasets using statistical tools.
- Ability to work with data formats such as CSV and JSON.
- Knowledge of GIS mapping software is an advantage.
- Basic proficiency in HTML and CSS.
- OECD staff are expected to demonstrate behaviours aligned to six core competencies which will be assessed as part of this hiring processes: Vision and Strategy (Level 1); Enable People (Level 1); Ethics and Integrity (Level 1); Collaboration and Horizontality (Level 2); Achieve Results (Level 1); Innovate and Embrace Change (Level 1).
- There are three possible levels for each competency. The level for each competency is determined according to the specific needs of each job role and its associated grade.

- An excellent written and oral command of English; working knowledge of French would be an advantage.
- This vacancy should be filled by the end of January 2026, and applications should reach us no later than midnight August 31, 2025 (Paris time).
- Two-year fixed term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.
- Depending on level of experience, monthly salary starts at 4 422.72 EUR, plus allowances based on eligibility, exempt of French income tax.
