CMC Engineer Intern - Polymer Development M/F/X

TISSIUM is a mission-driven medical device company founded in 2013 , headquartered in Paris , with a production facility in Roncq (near Lille) and an office in Boston . We are dedicated to creating a new era of body repair by leveraging our biopolymer platform to develop innovative solutions in surgery for a positive impact on patients' lives .

TISSIUM's technology is based on research and intellectual property from the laboratories of Professor Robert Langer (MIT) and Professor Jeffrey M. Karp (Brigham and Women's Hospital) , who co-founded the company with Christophe Bancel (CEO) and Maria Pereira (Deputy CEO & Chief Innovation Officer) .

We develop polymers for atraumatic tissue repair . Today, they are used for sutureless nerve repair , hernia repair and cardiovascular sealing .

Since our inception, we have raised a total of 170 million euros , including 50 million euros in our latest round (April 2023), to finance the commercialization of our first products .

YOUR MISSION

As part of your end-of-studies internship , you will join Tissium’s CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing & Controls) team in Paris for 6 months , starting january/february , reporting to a Senior CMC Engineer.

The CMC team develops the polymers at the heart of our medical devices . You will contribute to every stage of their development:

• deepening our understanding of their structure and physico-chemical properties

• designing and optimizing manufacturing processes

• running the studies that demonstrate their safety and performance

The internship includes a significant share of hands-on lab work , alongside interactions with our external partners and subcontractors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In the lab

• Perform the experimental work supporting the development of Tissium polymers: chemical reactions, purifications, analytics, performance testing

• Help design, perform and follow key testing methods to support the safety and performance of our polymers

• Analyze your results and report on them

Process development

• Support the setup and management of process design and optimization activities, through scale-up and transfer to production, internally or with subcontractors

• Help plan and follow up on subcontracted activities: feasibility and optimization work, production planning, batch reviews

Verification, validation & documentation

• Contribute to the design, planning and follow-up of key verification and validation studies (e.g. stability studies, in vitro degradation studies)

• Support the team in writing and reviewing CMC documentation for Tissium products

• Work in line with Tissium’s Quality Management System and applicable regulatory requirements

YOUR PROFILE

Required

• Final-year engineering student or equivalent, with a background in chemistry, process development and/or analytics

• First hands-on lab experience (internship or project): basic synthesis and purification techniques, use of standard analytical equipment, data analysis and reporting

• Professional proficiency in English, written and spoken

Nice to have

• Knowledge of polymers and/or materials science

You are autonomous and well organized, with strong planning and problem-solving skills. You approach technical challenges creatively and are comfortable understanding complex processes involving several partners. You are a team player and eager to learn.
