The Pooled-fund on International Energy (PIE) is an international grant-making and strategy platform. PIE collaborates with foundations, peer re-granting organizations, and more than 200 civil society partners to promote clean energy and phase out coal and gas, all within the framework of a just transition. Context of the role

PIE works with partners around the world to foster the acceleration of clean forms of electricity and industry to displace polluting coal. The Senior Associate will be responsible to build networks and impacts focusing on leveraging the green and sustainable finance opportunities, driving clean energy transition momentum and strategies in the finance sector globally and regionally, as well as other ways of encouraging change and progress in the context of Asia and the world.

The right candidate will need to possess a strong knowledge of and deep interest in the energy sector, green and sustainable finance, the policy environment of climate/energy transition, and supply chain issues on accelerating clean energies. This person should value public campaigning, technical analysis, working with government, diplomacy and multiple sectors of the economy in equal measure. This person should also be a brilliant networker, a fast learner, and have the instincts to be a responsible grantmaker and partner to our network.

Key responsibilities

The Senior Associate will work under the Asia program of PIE and will be directly supervised by the Asia Programme Director. They will work closely with other PIE teams, especially the Operations and Grant Management team, the International team, the Africa team, and the LAC team, as well as external partners. Key responsibilities include:

Strategy development & project management

• Support the delivery and ongoing refinement of strategy, ensuring alignment with program goals, priorities, and budgets.
• Co-develop and implement strategies with grantees, peer re-grantors and partners across priority countries and regions.
• Scope landscapes and identify strategic opportunities to accelerate clean energy financing and investment.
• Support the Program Director(s) in strategic planning and preparing materials for fundraising, donor reporting, internal stakeholder coordination and communication. Contribute to the development and implementation of the PIE Asia strategies with other team members.

Grant-making and convening

• Lead liaison with grantees and ensure strong relationships and effective communication.
• Support the full grant-making cycle, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and standards. Monitor and evaluate progress and impact of initiatives and grants, identifying risks and opportunities.
• Support the design and organization of convenings, workshops, and strategy discussions with partners as needed.

Research activities and prospecting

• Compile, research and analyse developments in policy, finance, and implementation across priority countries.
• Coordinate with internal teams to strengthen synergies between Asia-in-the-world finance work and broader international energy finance and geography finance (Africa, LAC) strategies.

Experience

• University degree or equivalent.
• 5-8 years or more of relevant professional experience in academic, media, research, international organizations, think tanks or NGOs.
• Experience in / related to climate, finance, investment, energy, or renewable energy sectors is desirable.
• A solid track record on bringing change through public campaigning, advocacy, network mobilization or inside an agency, business or government setting.
• A good knowledge and strategic comprehension on climate, finance, investment, energy, or renewable energy sectors.
• A demonstrable ability to deliver work plans and projects in a professional and diligent way, including the ability to coordinate and communicate with partners from different cultural backgrounds, time zones and working context.
• A demonstrable ability to self-manage, self-organise, establishing own workspace and schedule. Being highly efficient as an individual and in a team is essential.
• Excellent written and verbal communications in English, Mandarin or Chinese is an additional asset. Other languages are a bonus but not required.

Location

Remote, European time zone-friendly; Paris, Berlin, and London preferred. The candidate will need to demonstrate their ability to fulfil the demands of the role from their preferred location, which can include a home office.
